FastBugTrack vs. Bugzero

FastBugTrack is a system that is said, based on information on their website in 2004, to have no external software dependencies. It uses the file system, instead of a database, to store bugs. FastBugTrack also uses a home-grown web server to display the web pages. Bugzero does not try to re-invent the wheel, on the contrary, it uses standard software and technologies that you know and may already have, and can be fit into your existing environment seamlessly.
  • While it claims the system scales, it has never explained how a file-based system can beat a relational database that is designed for that purpose, namely, store and retrieve (query) data.
  • It is unclear how a home-grown web server created by a few people can compete with any well-known, high-quality web/application server that is used by millions of people.
  • FastBugTrack may not be as extensible as you want because of the proprietary technology it is built upon.
  • FastBugTrack seems do not support independent projects. Project is merely a field in the system. User access cannot be configured according to the project.
  • FastBugTrack does not support workflow (they named it unrestricted workflow).
  • FastBugTrack seems do not have the capability of auto-assignment.
  • Nevertheless, FastBugTrack and Bugzero have quite some similar features. In particular, unlike most of the others, both keep a complete and readable bug audit-trail (change log).
  • And since FastBugTrack has no external dependencies, it should be very easy to install.
